Graduation Project 2021

STATEMENT
My artwork focuses on mixing between psychogeography(effect of a geographical location on the emotions and behavior of individuals) and synaesthesia (a phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory). Synaesthesia and psychogeography have a great connection as the two depend on how a person’s mind associates different things together.

I am interested in creating associations through video art, collages, or digital sketches. These associations can be associating a place with color or sound or associating an incident with a certain material or color. The final results for my work tend to be so abstract as I am focused more on showing the emotion or feelings behind the work more than making the concept or the idea so clear to understand.

This project is a reflection on my mental health during 2020 and how it has been through different stages. I am expressing these reflections through series of videos, abstract designs, or maps that are inspired by incidents that happened during 2020.

Some artworks for different artists inspired me and helped in developing the curation process. I have been inspired by Ryoji Ikeda, Carolyn Black, Yayoi Kusama, Bill Viola, and Nam June Paik's work and how they engage the audience with their artwork. Also, music composers like Tony Oursler, Miguel Alvarez’s, and Maryanne Amacher have been a good inspiration in discovering new sounds that can be used in my videos or looking for sounds like the ones they discover.
